Evolution of a Portrait

Here is a little something to help understand the amount of time and talent that takes place after the button on the camera is pushed. And that is only half the equation. What happens in post production can be nothing short of pure magic. Yes, the before image is quite nice. But I know I can make it so much nicer. So read on if you are interested in the tech aspects. Or simply view the before and after and B&W and enjoy the artistry.

One of the most fundamental priorities in creating the perfect portrait is to draw attention to the face. So look at the before and after image below and I’ll point out several things that took the image from good to ‘oh wow’!

By vignetting, or darkening the outer edges of the image, it immediately makes your attention go to the face. Also, a slight blur or out of focus effect can be seen especially on the top and bottom of the image also sending your eye to the face. Then I jazzed up the color, sharpness and detail since the day was drizzly and quite overcast, greatly muting the colors. A skin enhancement was used to give the face a smooth, flattering look. Eyes were enhanced to bring out the color and to make them a tad sharper.

So each one of these techniques are subtle improvements, but they all come together to make a huge difference in the final image!

Cairnwood Estates Hosts Danielle and John’s Wedding

It’s always a wonderful experience when I get Danielle and John in front of my camera. 2014 was the first time with a fantastic engagement session. From then on, I couldn’t wait for their wedding to photograph them once more. This time dressed to the nines! With Danielle in her gown by Jay West and John in his attire from Darianna Bridal , the day went incredibly well. Starting with photography at the house, I was treated to simply stunning and quite unique, floral bouquets from Elite Florals. Also on board was Matt Stafford  of Stafford Productions whose simply amazing. His videos are fantastic works of cinematic art! Sherry Robinson-Miller of Visions in Beauty provided the make up and Details Salon the hair. Bucks County Trolley Co. provided the transportation throughout the day. Ceremony was held at Saint Albert the Great in Huntingdon Valley.

Then it was on to the always beautiful Cairnwood Estates where Karen Spire Catering  provided some of the most delicious hor d’oeuvres and main courses I have ever had! Can’t say enough on how great the food was. And of course they danced the night away to the tunes of Scratch Weddings . A rare treat at any wedding was the addition of a keg of beer from one of my personal favorites, Forest and Main Brewery . They always have fantastic brews at their location in downtown Ambler, PA.

Blair Mill Inn hosts Kerry and Doug’s WeddingReception

Talk about a fun couple! Kerry and Doug were incredible to work with. Between Kerry’s humor and Doug’s ever present smile, we all had a blast! The Blair Mill Inn provided a great ballroom for the festivities and Anthony from East Coast Event Group played just the right mix of tunes to keep the dance floor packed. The flowers from Domenic Graziano Flowers beautifully accented the entire day.
